Medical Care – EU Member States & Switzerland

Students coming from an EU member state should apply for an European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from their home country before coming to Ireland. Please see http://ec.europa.eu and www.ehic.ie and click on the link ‘Visitors to Ireland’ for more information. If you need medical attention in Ireland, you will need to present this card to the hospital. Medical attention will be provided in accordance with the legislation of Ireland.

It is very useful to visit the Health Services Executive website before you visit Ireland to ensure you know exactly what to do if you should become ill – www.hse.ie.

Health Insurance

Health Insurance is Essential

We recommend that all students take out health insurance to protect against accidents or serious injury. Health insurance not only gives peace of mind should the unfortunate happen, but also ensures that studying with us is problem free.

Our Admissions Officer will arrange health insurance for you at a cost of €99 per year. It is advisable to take out Travel Insurance which includes health cover no matter what country you are coming from. Please ask your Student Agency or Travel Agency for details in your own country. It is also advisable to have “Repatriation Insurance cover” which will return you to your own country in case of emergency.

If you are already in Ireland, please talk to your Admissions Officer, or discuss at the Fresher Friday.
