Suitable For

Students wishing to develop and improve all areas of their English language skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.Students attend lessons Monday to Friday 9.30 – 13.30 with a 20-minute coffee break.

Course Overview

There is a syllabus for each level. Students receive a course book and supplementary material from a wide range of sources is used in conjunction with the syllabus. All four skills are covered and there is a strong focus on pronunciation. Students learn the fundamentals of phonetics, word stress, sentence stress and connected speech. Classes are task-based and interactive with lots of practical activities and exercises in order to maximise their use of English.
Throughout their course students are constantly monitored from an initial placement test to weekly progress tests through to a final end of level test where students receive a course certificate.

Achievement

At the end of the course students can sit the TIE exam (Test of Interactive English), recognised by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI).
The test is in two parts – a speaking test (OTIE) and a written test (WTIE). In the oral test you present a project, talk about either a book or news story and talk to your partner to reach a decision based on some material the examiner will give you. In the written test you are required to produce two pieces of writing. You write about either your book or news story for the first task and for the second you write an unprepared piece. The written test takes 1 hour and the speaking test takes 30 minutes (25 minutes for Junior TIE)
